PARKINSON’S KNOCKOUT

BECAUSE WE THINK PARKINSON’S DISEASE DESERVES A GOOD PUNCH TO THE FACE.

There’s a lot of misconception about the sport of boxing. One being that boxing is an individual sport. Boxing is a team sport. And, we’re fortunate here at The Corner Boxing Club to have the Parkinson’s community a part of our community, where we can stand with them through their ultimate fight.
— Coach Carrie Barry, Executive Director at Off the Ropes, 501c3

The Corner Boxing Club serves as the headquarters for our Parkinson’s Knockout program. Exercise has been shown to be an effective agent to help manage and even combat symptoms of neurodegenerative diseases. Boxing by nature delivers a uniquely effective combination of mental and physical benefits to help individuals living with Parkinson’s take a swing back at this disease.

Off the Ropes' Parkinson's Knockout class is designed to challenge senior participants in a fun and functional environment. We will spend the first part of class warming up with our ABC's (Adult Balance & Conditioning) in all three planes of motion. The second half of class we will lace up the gloves and smack some leather and break a sweat. This class will be scaled to meet the needs of individuals with joint replacements.

Don’t take our word for it

our members explain what parkinson’s knockout means to them better than we ever could.

PARKINSON’S PRESENTS WITH MANY SYMPTOMS - BOXING HELPS FIGHT THEM SIMULTANEOUSLY.

Research has shown that a non-contact boxing program can delay, and in some cases, even reverse the effects of Parkinson’s disease. Our classes are designed to help train strength, speed, flexibility, and coordination - and they’re lots of fun!

PARKINSON’S KNOCKOUT FIGHTS THE EMOTIONAL ATTACKS OF PARKINSON’S DISEASE.

According to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, up to half of people who are diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease may suffer from depression or anxiety during the course of the disease. Our group classes foster social connection and camaraderie for our members.
